How to set up IPTV on a Fire TV Stick, step by step

A hand pointing a Fire TV remote at a television

The short version Install a player app on your Fire TV Stick (IPTV Smarters Pro, TiviMate or IBO Player Pro), open it, and enter the login details we send you: either your Xtream Codes login (server URL, username, password) or your M3U link. If the app isn’t in the Amazon Appstore, you install it with the free Downloader app. Plan on ten minutes the first time.

The Fire TV Stick is one of the most popular ways to watch IPTV, and for good reason. It’s cheap, it plugs into any TV with an HDMI port, and it handles HD and 4K streams without breaking a sweat. The only part that trips people up is installing the player app, because Amazon hides a setting you need. This guide walks you through every screen, in the order you’ll see them.

What you need before you start

  • A Fire TV Stick (any model from the 2nd generation onwards; the 4K and 4K Max models are the smoothest), set up and connected to your Wi-Fi.
  • Your StreamNovo login details. You’ll find them in the email we sent you, and on WhatsApp or Telegram if you chose that at checkout. Don’t have them yet? You can start a free 24-hour trial first.
  • About 10 minutes, and the Fire TV remote within reach.

Step 1: Choose your player app

StreamNovo is the subscription; the app is the player that shows it on your screen. Three apps work well on a Fire TV Stick:

Prefer to follow along on video? Watch our step-by-step guides for TiviMate on Fire TV Stick, IPTV Smarters on Fire TV Stick and IBO Player Pro on Fire TV Stick.

  • IPTV Smarters Pro: the easiest to learn. Live TV, movies and series each get their own tile on the home screen.
  • TiviMate: the best if you mostly watch live TV. Its channel guide looks and feels like a cable box. The extra features need a paid Premium upgrade from the developer.
  • IBO Player Pro: handy if you also have a Samsung or LG TV, because you manage your playlist from the developer’s website instead of typing it with the remote. It needs a paid activation after its trial period.

Not sure? Start with IPTV Smarters Pro. You can always switch later: your StreamNovo login works in any of them. We compare them in more detail in our guide to IPTV player apps.

Step 2: Look for the app in the Amazon Appstore

From the Fire TV home screen, go to Find > Search and type the name of the app. If it shows up and comes from the app’s real developer, install it like any other app and jump to Step 5.

Availability changes from country to country, so don’t worry if it isn’t there. Steps 3 and 4 show you the other way in, which is just as safe as long as you download from the developer’s official website.

Step 3: Allow apps from outside the Appstore

This is the setting Amazon hides. On recent Fire TV Sticks, the Developer Options menu doesn’t appear until you unlock it:

  1. Open Settings (the gear icon) > My Fire TV > About.
  2. Highlight the first line, with your device’s name, and press the select button on your remote seven times. A message tells you that you’re now a developer.
  3. Press Back. A new Developer Options line now appears in the My Fire TV menu.

Leave that menu open for now. You’ll come back to it in a moment, once Downloader is installed.

Step 4: Install the app with Downloader

  1. Go to Find > Search, type Downloader, and install the app with the orange icon (by AFTVnews). It’s free.
  2. Go back to Settings > My Fire TV > Developer Options > Install unknown apps, and switch Downloader to On. On older models the setting is called Apps from Unknown Sources instead.
  3. Open Downloader, allow it to access your files if it asks, and type the address of the download page on the player’s official website in the address box.
  4. Download the app, choose Install, then Done. Downloader then offers to delete the installation file: say yes, it frees up space you’ll want later.

One rule matters more than everything else here: only download a player from its developer’s own website. Copies posted elsewhere can be out of date, or worse, modified.

Step 5: Enter your StreamNovo login

Open the player. Every app asks the same question in its own words: how do you want to add your playlist? You have two options, and both are in the email we sent you.

Option A: Xtream Codes login (recommended on Fire TV)

In IPTV Smarters Pro, choose Login with Xtream Codes API. In TiviMate, choose Add playlist > Xtream Codes. Then fill in:

  • Name: anything you like, for example “StreamNovo”.
  • Username and Password: exactly as written in your email. They’re case-sensitive.
  • Server URL: the full address, including http:// and the port number at the end if there is one (it looks like http://server-address:8080).

With this option the app loads live channels, movies, series and the TV guide on its own.

Option B: M3U link

Choose Load your playlist or file/URL in IPTV Smarters Pro, or M3U playlist in TiviMate, and paste the M3U link from your email. Typing a long link with the remote is painful, so a tip: send the link to yourself and copy it on your phone, then use the Fire TV mobile app as a keyboard.

Which one should you pick? On a Fire TV Stick, Xtream Codes is usually faster and fills in the TV guide for you. Here’s the full comparison.

Step 6: Let it load, then make it yours

The first load takes a minute or two: the app is fetching thousands of channels and the TV guide. Don’t press anything while the progress bar runs. After that:

  • Add your favourite channels to Favourites so you don’t scroll through every country each time.
  • Hide the categories you never watch (both IPTV Smarters Pro and TiviMate let you do this). The app gets noticeably quicker.
  • Pin the app to the Fire TV home screen: highlight it, press the menu button (three lines), then Move.

If something goes wrong

“Invalid login” or “Authorization failed”. Nine times out of ten it’s a typo. Check capital letters, and check that the server URL starts with http:// and ends with the right port. Copy and paste beats retyping.

The app installs but won’t open, or crashes. Your Fire TV Stick may be low on storage. Go to Settings > Applications > Manage Installed Applications, and clear the cache of apps you rarely use, or uninstall them.

Channels start, then freeze. That’s almost always the connection between the stick and your router. Fire TV Sticks sit behind the TV, which is the worst spot for Wi-Fi. Our buffering guide goes through the fixes in order, from the free ones to the ones that cost a few dollars.

Still stuck? Message us with your Fire TV model and the name of the app. A real person replies, and we’ll go through it with you screen by screen.

Frequently asked questions

Does it work on the older Fire TV Stick Lite?

Yes, for HD channels. The Lite is slower to load large channel lists, so hiding the categories you don’t use helps a lot. For 4K you need a 4K model and a 4K TV.

Can I use the same login on my Fire TV Stick and my phone?

Yes. Install a player on each device and enter the same login. The number of screens that can play at the same time is the number of devices in your plan.

Will I lose my channels if the Fire TV Stick updates?

No. Fire TV updates don’t remove apps you installed yourself, and your login stays saved in the player.
